While diet soda consumption has increased consistently since the mid 90's, weight loss has decreased, right? Not really, according to a study presented at the American Diabetes Association last month. According to University of Texas at San Antonio researchers, of 600 persons ages 25 to 54 studied over an eight year span, those who drank diet sodas gained more weight than their counterparts who consumed regular soft drinks. Of the diet soft-drink consumers, approximately 54% consuming 1-2 cans per day became overweight or obese (33% in the regular soft-drink group) and 57% consuming two or more diet cans became overweight or obese (47% in the regular soft-drink group).
