A new (or in our case, old) way to keep bones strong
Bonnie - A new study from Tufts University says to go easy on the grain carbs and sub in more fruits and veggies. What a novel idea! The researchers say that when your body digests grain carbohydrates, the process turns your digestive system slightly acidic. As we know, a highly acidic environment leaches calcium from bone. Fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, create an alkaline environment. The researchers went so far as to administer an alkaline supplement (similar to Alka-Aid, Tri Salts, and Gerolsteiner Sparkling Water, the products we use), which lowered the amount of calcium the subjects excreted by 20%. All of this seems eerily familiar, like we have heard it a few times before :)
